I also tried mounting the volume with sshfs. I found web sites indicating that it is not possible to use Finder to connect through SFTP and other web sites indicating that it is possible. Indeed, I can connect with no problems from the command line using sftp as well as other graphical clients, but I would like to have access through a Finder folder (without using third-party apps).
There is no problem with the number of connections, so the message probably does not indicate the real problem. However, it does not work and I always get an error 'This file server will not allow any additional users to log on.
I use the prefix ftps:// (as suggested in ) because if I use sftp:// it is captured by VLC. I'm trying to connect to an FTP server using the 'Connect to server' functionality of Finder.
